Frequently Asked Questions

We're a fully out-of-network, cash-based practice. For Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Emblem (GHI), and UnitedHealthcare, we submit your out-of-network claim for you. For all other plans, we provide a detailed superbill you can submit yourself. We don't submit to Aetna or Medicare. All services are HSA and FSA eligible.

Do you take insurace?

No. Under New York's direct access law, a qualified physical therapist can evaluate and treat you without a doctor's referral for up to 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. After that, you'll need a referral from a physician, nurse practitioner, podiatrist, or dentist to continue. We'll give you a written heads-up at your first visit, since some insurance plans still require a referral for reimbursement.

2

Do I need a referral to be seen?

Every session is a full 60 minutes, one-on-one with a doctor of physical therapy — no double-booking, no handing you off. Your initial evaluation is where we dig into your history, movement, and goals and build the plan; follow-ups are where we do the work and progress it.

What does a session look like?

How do I get started/Where are you located?

4

The easiest way to get started is to book a free 15-minute discovery call. We see patients in Port Washington (61 Manorhaven Blvd, inside RX Fit) and Manhattan (47 W 14th St, 4th Floor, inside Body Space Fitness), plus telehealth for patients in New York and beyond. Call or text us at 516.216.9305, or email info@athleticiqpt.com. For anything involving your health details, email is best.

Why cash based instead of insurance?

5

When insurance runs the room, a billing code decides how long your session is and how often you're seen. Going out-of-network lets us build your plan around your goals and the evidence — not around what a payer will reimburse. More time, more attention, a clearer path forward.

Yes. We offer telehealth physical therapy for patients located in New York, with California coming soon — a great way to talk to a PT before you escalate to imaging or ortho. And through the AIQ App and virtual coaching, we work with clients anywhere in the world on training, programming, and movement, so distance is never the barrier to working with us.
